At Axis Medical, we believe that the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and cultures is a vital part of growth, not only professionally, but personally as well.

This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming Hannah, a Biomedical Engineering student from the The University of Texas at Austin, U.S, as part of the Cerca Abroad internship program. Her presence brought a fresh perspective, positive energy, and a sincere interest in healthcare and technology.

And while Hannah certainly gained experience during her time with us, we can confidently say that we gained just as much from her.
Below, we share a few thoughts and highlights from this meaningful collaboration.
Q: What motivated you to choose Greece and Axis Medical for your internship?
H: I chose Greece because of the class that my teacher was offering to teach here. I also love to travel and explore and I have never been to Greece, so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to come to this country. I chose Axis Medical because we were given a few interviews to attend to and Axis medical was my favorite company I interviewed with that seemed like it would allow me to grow in my engineering skills. I also liked that the company allows me to try more of a biomechanical engineering route, which is the path I want to take.
Q: What has surprised or impressed you the most about working in a healthcare construction company in Greece?
H: It has surprised me how social and welcoming everyone is. I enjoy working at the large table/desk with everyone so that I can feel included, instead of an individual desk. It is also very interesting to see how many countries are contributors to the healthcare construction around Europe.
Q: How would you describe the team environment and your role within it?
H: The team environment is exciting and welcoming. I feel very accepted into the team and I enjoy coming to the internship everyday! I do not feel out of place, even though I am still working to learn my engineering skills.
Q: Which skills of yours do you feel have contributed the most during your internship?

systemH: My background in solidworks and team contribution have helped me the most. I am learning new skills to enhance my solidworks ability, which has made me happy and feel accomplished.
Q: Is there a particular project or task you’re especially proud to have worked on?
H: I am proud of the project I am working on now, which is observing a piece of the modular wall that is in person, and rebuilding it in the 3D workspace. I have had to measure, sketch, and rebuild, which has taught me new skills and refined old techniques. I also find it enjoyable and entertaining to build this structure.
Q: What are you learning here that you think will stay with you in your future career?
H: I am learning new techniques in SoldWorks that will help me a lot in the future, as it is a great tool that many engineers use, so as I continue to use it, I hope I can become more advanced than people my age with it so I can create new products. I also believe that working in a different workspace than I am used to will help me to learn and adapt to any work environment that I will be placed in, in the future.
Q: How would you describe Axis Medical to someone back home who has never heard of it?
H: I would describe it as a company that focuses on safety, quality, innovation, and a commitment to providing superior service to clients. I would also say that they work on solving problems and helping people in a time of need, especially after seeing the quick ICU that they built for the COVID-19 pandemic. They are a medical and building company that helps to provide antibacterial workspaces for hospitals so that patients and doctors can both be safe.
